July's meeting and Luncheon

Presidents Message:

 

I had the opportunity to see a trunk show this week by Ilene King from Centerville. It was lovely and she does a lot of hand piecing and hand quilting. The quilts were beautiful and inspiring. And then she pulled out the most magnificent quilting journal that I have ever seen. I was awe struck as I turned the pages and looked through the photos of all the quilts she had made over the years. More impressive than that was the information that she recorded for each quilt. She records the inspiration behind the quilt design, fabric swatches pictures of the quilt recipient. I am not a great journal writer but after I left that day I have decided to make my own quilt journal so that in the absence of an ordinary journal my posterity might know something about me. Perhaps one of my greatest passions, quilting! Quilting is a close second to raising a family. I will organize a sew-in soon and I will have ideas available for you if you wish to start a quilting journal. So start organizing your quilt pictures and make a list of all the quilts you have given away over the years. I believe if we ask our family and friends to send us a digital picture of the quilts we have given them they will email the pictures to us. Maybe I could have Ilene come and share hers if she is available. So quilting ladies make those lists of your quilts and jot down some information about each one and lets get together soon and start a quilting journal. If you have one we want to hear about it and you can help inspire us to start our own.

What a legacy Ilene is leaving for her family some day. They might not get the privilege of seeing every quilt she made but they will be able to see the pictures and read about the experience. This could also help us to get quilt labels on the back of each quilt while we are gathering information. See you on the 3rd Thursday, hope you are having a wonderful July!  Denise has been busy this month as she completes one project after another. Think her UFO pile is growing or shrinking?

A quilt filled with love and made from Vivian';s collection of wools. The buttons accent her quilt nicely don't you think! A fun one to have.

Vivian shared with us some fun quilted works of art.

 

Although Brenda wasn't able to attend the meeting here is her own personal show and tell starting with some hand work done from a pattern shared at a guild meeting. The borders was used using a new braided ruler giving the pillow a fun look. Below is some fun baby bibs that were machine embroidered. Perfect to protect that little ones Sunday best.

what a fun way to

dress a baby. With a bit of iron on and creative juices going, with a bit of scraps and a onsie to embellish baby dresses were created to help keep the little one nice a cool when warm hands

Tinkerbell made a new home. This Tinkerbell quilt was made using a take 5 pattern and quilted by Brenda and her Daughter Kaytlin. This quilt was donated to a dear friend of the family for there enjoyment.

 Snowmen's collection was hand embroidered taking a few years and load of  time to create. But the work and effort was well worth it. Christmas treasures is what brings us these darling Christmas stocking using variegated thread and some fun fabric to finish off the samplers.
