March 19,
2015 Guild meeting minutes
President
Cindy Gerber-Chavez welcomed all to the meeting.
Cindy told
us that Kim Diehl had to cancel the classes she was going to teach our guild in
the fall. Kim sent an email to Lorri Bashien apologizing and saying she has
health issues that make it hard for her to travel to teach anymore. Lorri sent
her back an email to say we are sorry she’s not coming but we understand. We
all decided that next month members will come with ideas for new teachers and
techniques we’d like to learn. Then we can discuss what to do with the money
for a teacher. There is a list of local
teachers on the UQG website if we want to look for ideas. Cindy Hutchison
explained that the teachers were chosen from many who filled out an application
and were rated by people that had taken classes from them.
Our
Treasurer Lorri Bashien gave us a report that we have $667.62 in checking.
Cindy
Hutchison told us that the Springville Quilt Show is looking for entries. She
passed around bookmarks/discount tickets for the Dixie Guild quilt show. She reminded us to renew our UQG memberships
and we would be entered into a drawing.
Cindy
Gerber-Chavez asked for a few more people to volunteer for National Quilt Day
Mar 20+21. She also reminded us to all come and support the other guilds as
well as our own and to come and see all the beautiful quilts. She collected the
quilts for display and the items to be sold at our guild table.
Nickey
Greene told us to think of an idea for our next challenge “I heard it on
vinyl.” We will start them in April and they will be due in October.
Denise
Thalman said she will bring the patterns for the Easter row quilt next month.
The list of participants will be in the newsletter.
Joan Jensen took the fabric from those who had
brought theirs and reminded everyone to bring their fabric next month. She will
then give us each ours back from the exchange for both months. We all decided
to continue doing the Kim Diehl fabrics because we may still do a class on one
of her projects taught by one of us.
Ruth Davis
told us about the plan for the star block swap. She passed out patterns for different
ideas. These need to be 9 inch (finished size) blocks. White background only
and bright colors for the star. We can make any block we want. We each need to
make 12 blocks – 11 for the exchange and one to donate for a quilt for the
senior center where we have our meetings. These are due at the April meeting.
Patsy
Shelton said that HMQS needs more quilts for the show. We can enter them online
at HMQS.org. The deadline is April 11th. Patsy said she can take our
quilts with her when she goes at the beginning of the week. We don’t have to
deliver them earlier.
Nickey Greene has the OTT light for March.

UFO #7 is
due next meeting.
Next meeting
will be Thursday April 16th at 1:00 pm.
The sew-in for
both April and May will be to make Happy Chemo quilts for Emily Bailey’s
charity. It will start at 10:00 am.
Emily said we can just come and sew or cut or iron because she will have all
the supplies there for us.
What did you bring for show and tell? Everyone had beautiful creations we can all enjoy so pleased don't hesitate to bring what you have created. I was out of town attending a sewing conference with my daughter. Here is my show and tell hope you enjoy what I have created with more to come as this is the year I am going to try and finish a few things before buying new fabric and a new project. I hope I can stick to this goal. Sit back and enjoy these few projects.
Come back soon where fun new items will be shared and creations to inspire you.
