August Guild meeting

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Have you had the thought that 2014 is now over halfway gone?! Look back thru' your goals for the first of the year. How are you coming along? I hear friends say that they just can't start one more project!! Too many on the 'Grill"? Is this what leads up to jumping from the pan into the fire? Here's an idea! Make a list of 10 things / projects and pull a number and work on that project thru the month, then pull another number for the next month! If you don't complete a project ... well start another list for later! Baby steps! Do a little, pat yourself on the back, move on! This is all progress! There are so many things that distract us. Remember, you are the only person who takes charge of you and can make changes for you!

I had a plan this week to take 3 hours, 3 days and do only things in the house!! It is Thurs. and my 3rd day is half over ... nothing has been done in the house. I look back and pat myself on the back, because my distractions took over, but there are several people happier, because of some time I gave them this week instead. Just be who you are and do things with a willingness that boosts you up! So grab up some sewing, plug in your favorite DVD, CD or if

some of you are like me, a VHS or Cassette tape! ha!  

NOW, TAKE SOME SEWING TIME FOR YOURSELF

Tips/Tricks – Nickey Greene volunteered to give us a

tip/trick that works for her at Guild Meeting.

Sew in: The sew-in will start at 9:00am  so we will have plenty of time to work on our sewing. Ruth will be

teaching about 9-patch blocks. Bring 5 or 10 inch

squares of coordinating light and dark fabrics. You can

use a charm pack or a layer cake if you want. Also bring

a machine, BSK, rotary cutter, mat that is bigger than

your squares, and a ruler. There will be hand-outs and

instructions on different fun ways to make these blocks.

And you will learn some cool things to do with a

finished 9-patch block.

In cleaning out my sewing room and decluttering it thanks to the help of my daughter I can find my favorite patterns, and see my cutting table as well as my floor.  In the throwing away process this was found and though it would be fun to share and maybe create a new section to enjoy with some fun ideas. 

SEW MANY TIPS: 

* Sturdy Templates : Laminate templates to make them sturdier so they last longer, You can use contact paper or take the pattern to a copy shop to be laminated. Using card stop will give your  template extra strength. 

* Purchase a large mesh pencil holder to use on your sewing table. It keeps all of your tools close at hand, and keeps your sewing table neat. I use a fun old time soda glass to do the same thing. 

* Magnetic Pin Holder: put your magnetic pin holder in a disposable plastic food container so that you can transport pins safely to classes.

* Bobbin Keepers:

Toe separators used for pedicures are perfect for holding bobbins and keeping thread from unraveling. They stack neatly, and you can see the thread colors at a a glance.

* Block Layout: Cut a flannel backed plastic tablecloth in to 18 inch squares. As you cut pieces for your blocks, lay them out on the flannel side of the squares. You can stack the squares and roll the stack to take to your weekly quilt class or sew in. They are a great way to keep your blocks organized as you stack them by your sewing machine at home to keep your pieces in order. 

Show and tell is the best as the members of the guild bring out there creations and with smiles on show us what they have all created. Sit back and enjoy the wonders of the sewing world.

   Several members of the guild participated and completed their blocks showing us

July Guild meeting

Our July annual picnic was a huge success for all that attended. Yummy food was enjoyed and laughter was shared by all as we once again met and share in one another lives. Once again recipes should have been shared as all that attended asked about the different dishes served.  Sue our guild president started our meeting by handing out a prize to the member that was on time. We all enjoyed a good laugh about that as we were all on time the picnic luncheon started at 12 noon and meeting at 1.  As guild business was discussed and members of the board shared there news and patterns, a couple of cards were passed around for memberst that weren't able to join us for out meeting as life had dealt them a bit if a tough spot in the road and we wanted our members to love we love and miss them and are them for them to hold them up and carry them on. The ott light was shared and passed on and the UFO was chosen and members shared what they had finished. The meeting was filled with a love for one another and friendships strengthened and built.

 I wasn't able to stay for the complete meeting, and left the picture taken to a dear friend so more photos to come soon. I hope. In my little family we welcomed a new niece and built her a fun diaper trike with receiving blankets, rattles, a bottle, bibs, a bit of ribbon and loads of diapers. Thanks to Kohl s cares program we found a fun doctor suess book and stuffed animal to go with it to add to this fun creation,

We are also welcoming a new granddaughter  soon to our family and to help her be the best dressed . I made/created her a new wardrobe of onsie dresses. Using my inspiration to design these fun dresses each a different size. So people can finger but not get the new little one hot and sticky. We are excited to welcome her soon. 

A bit of machine embroidery, some lace and hello kitty fabric with some fun ruffles on the back made this dress something special. 

The fun addition of mini ruffle fabric to this onsie made it darling with enough fabric to make the new mom a new skirt to match. 

which one is your favorite?

A baby shower just isn't complete with out it's castle made special for the new mom and baby. 

Kaytlin graduated this spring and to make her day that much more special she made herself a fun pencil skirt to wear  for her graduation and a lovely lace dress for the after party. She will be going in to costume design at Weber State. 

The Young women  received something special for girls camp, with these custom made pillow cases personalized with there names in glow in the dark thread so that they will always know which one belongs to them. There theme was super hero and with the left over fabric from the pillow cases 5 quilts were made and pillow cases to hold them to auction off to help raise money for the young women program. Keep an eye out for these quilts to be show cased and put your bid in. They make for great gifts.

Presidents message:

 What do you in June? I get to go to a condo in Park City for a week every year! I LOVE IT!!  One of  my favorite things to do there is walk through the cue housing areas and take pictures ! In inspires my "Art Self"  Houses, angles, colors and even shadows. Lots of fun stuff to get me renewed and invigorated! One of the best things I do is draw out shapes and ideas on graft paper! Just get a booklet from an office type store and fold a couple of pages for your purse. then when you are able to draw out fun things like tiles patterns from a floor or wall or ceiling ects. Take that phone out and click a couple of pictures for later. Can't go wrong there ! They are fantastic! One time I was camping with my good friend Cynthia Dinsdale and we looked across at Bear Lake . the fields and trees in between were gorgeous colors, then that beautiful blue lake, then the hillside on the other side of the lake?1 From greens, golds, turquoise, blue, purples, violets and even coral; WOW! We both stood in awe and commented on what a beautiful, striking quilt those colors would make!! Start thinking outside the limits and you will be surprised at how many things are out there to inspire and encourage the beauty and art of quilting! What ever you do ... enjoy your summer ! Sue

June meeting was quick with business taken care of in no time

What did you do in June?  My family and I traveled to Wisconsin so pictures from meeting will not be shown but the beautiful colors I was able to take in and enjoy as we traveled and even fit in time for a couple of quilt shops as they held their state wide shop hop.

The breath taking Merry Go Round  from the house on the rock. It is only 4 stories high and each level is filled with horsed, dolls and more. It is breathtaking

Green and Gold sprinkled with smiles by the whole family as we walked along the playing field the Green Bay Packers Play. Kaytlin makes a lovely model for this historic tour. 

The banks of the Mississippi and the shade of green they call hills that are green. Shades of the blues of the water were every where as the water table was high while we were out there. 

The sky line at night fall is worth the hike and drive up there. A peaceful moment as we did a lot of traveling.

The best part of the hike was the company I had my handsome husband on the raining, sunny day. Spending time with the family is the best way to enjoy a vacation and renewing friendships makes the road trip all worth the effort.

Where is your favorite place to go on a family vacation? As you can see ours is LaCrosse Wisconsin and the area around it.
