September meeting

Layton Quilt Guild

August 20, 2015  Guild meeting minutes
President Cindy Gerber-Chavez welcomed everyone. She reminded everyone to pay the $1 or $2 to the center for letting us meet there every month.
Our Treasurer Lorri Bashien told us we had $1527.09 in savings and $940.82 in checking.

Michelle Stay handed out an updated guild members list. It was also emailed to everyone.

Our UQG Rep Sandra John showed us a beautiful opportunity quilt. We can buy tickets and we may win the quilt when they hold the drawing at quilt fest. She said there are still some class openings at quilt fest. She told us the UQG is still working on a venue to have our Quilt Days in March.

We talked about our fun sew-in with Patsy Shelton and she asked us to bring our finished projects, made with the cute Halloween blocks she taught us, to show at our October meeting.

We all had a discussion on the kinds of quilting tools you can find at hardware and office supply stores. There are lots of them!

Nickey Greene reminded us our “I heard it on vinyl” challenge is due in October.

Leslie Rogers gave us more instructions for her mystery project. We are to sew all our pieces together to make 2 sides for our tote. Then we should quilt them each with a piece of batting.

Denise Thalman showed us her progress on the Easter row quilt. She asked us to do the flower row for next time.

Cindy reminded us that we are to make and donate a quilt for our birthday month.

Cindy also asked us about the gift exchange we usually do at our December meeting. She asked if we would like to do a pincushion exchange instead of a pillow like last year. Everyone agreed that was a great idea. We decided some could be made with wool and some not because of allergies. The gift bag should be marked if it contains wool.

Sue Tubbs showed us a cute snowman picture project the we will be making at our October sew-in. She handed out a supply list so we can start finding our buttons now.

Leslie Rogers has the OTT light for October.
UFO #4 is due next meeting.

We decided that we will cancel our guild meeting for next month because it is right in the middle of Quilt Fest.

Next meeting will be Thursday October 15th at 1:00pm.
Our sew-in will be Sue Tubbs’ snowmen

While member of our guild were attending the Utah State guild annual meeting as I was. I also did a bit of sewing at home trying to work on the different UFO's I have that are in need of accomplishing.  One of those projects was a bathrobe for my granddaughter who is 1 year's old and loving her bath time. Pink is her color for sure.

While at  Annual meeting those attending took many classes where they learned new techniques and others new crafts. I was able to take a book making class where I learned to create my own book.  The other one was the ice crystal class from Judy Nieymer from quiltworks.   Mine is yet to be completed but others were able to make the time to finish. My hat goes off to them.

Not wanting to throw away such fun fabric scraps I took the time to create this fun quilt. Some little super hero is enjoying this quilt. It was donated to the Young women of my ward for a money maker to help them get to camp.

One row at a time, My daughter chose to do her own thing and used black for her back ground and a fun polka dot for her back. She even quilted it. I think  she did a fantastic job! The black back ground gave this quilt a whole new look of it's own.

While I baby sit the quilt little one in the bathrobe I have time to do a bit of hand work. Playing with different crochet edges and adding a bit of black for an accent. I really like the pink one. Progress though I have a few more of my UFO's done and it feels good.
Cynthia out did herself in finishing her ice crystal quilt. I love what she has done and what a beautiful job she has done for sure. I hope to have mine done before the end of time .

Here is to one and all make sure to keep moving, and remember how much your friendship and love with strengthen those you come in contact with.
